At EU level it was decided to develop a common standard for e-invoicing. Member States are obliged to adopt rules at national level requiring contracting authorities and entities to accept invoices issued according to this standard by economic operators.

In this article, our colleagues, Andrei Stefanovici and Denisa Neamțiu, provide an overview of the applicable EU legislation and give us an insight with respect to the way in which the EU legislation was implemented in some of the European countries as well as in Romania.

In their view, the creation of this system, as well as the use of e-invoicing, contributes to achieving public policy priorities such as the digitisation of public sector activity, financial transparency and the promotion of sustainable development. At the same time, the use of the system and e-invoicing will specifically make a significant contribution to cost reduction and efficiency in the public sector.
